Position Summary

The Coordinator - Tribal Relations and Community Engagement is responsible for developing and maintaining strong relationships with
Indigenous communities impacted by mining operations. This role focuses on ensuring meaningful engagement, respecting Indigenous rights,
and fostering collaboration between the company and local communities. 

Job Responsibilities

The Coordinator - Tribal Relations and Community Engagement will be responsible for the following:
  • Establish and nurture partnerships with Indigenous communities, leaders, and organizations. Act as a liaison to ensure open lines of communication.
  • Plan and facilitate community meetings, consultations, and engagement activities to gather feedback and address concerns regarding mining projects.
  • Promote an understanding of Indigenous cultures and traditions within the company. Ensure that company practices align with cultural values and respect for land.
  • Monitor and ensure adherence to legal and regulatory obligations regarding Indigenous rights, including treaties, land use agreements, and environmental protections.
  • Address and mediate conflicts that may arise between the mining company and Indigenous communities. Work towards mutually beneficial solutions.
  • Work closely with environmental, legal, and operational teams to integrate Indigenous perspectives into project planning and execution.
  • Maintain thorough records of engagements, agreements, and compliance efforts. Prepare reports and presentations for stakeholders, management, and regulatory bodies.
  • Support initiatives that build capacity within Indigenous communities, including training and development opportunities related to mining and environmental stewardship.
  • Develop and maintain the charitable giving charter and coordinate the disbursement of funding gifts.
  • Receive and communicate receipt of funding gift requests.
  • Submit monthly charitable giving proposal to Manager of Government and Community Relations for forwarding for Senior Leadership approval.
  • Coordinate charitable giving press releases and maintain year to date and historical charitable giving totals.
Skills and Qualifications
  • Experience working with Indigenous communities, particularly in resource management or the mining sector, is highly desirable.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, strong negotiation and conflict resolution abilities, and cultural competency. Knowledge of relevant legal frameworks is a plus.
  • A commitment to ethical engagement, respect for cultural diversity, and a collaborative approach to problem-solving. 

Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in Indigenous studies, social sciences, environmental management, or a related field.
