Role Summary
Responsible for managing day-to-day construction activities for an assigned area or package of the Mesabi Integrated Steel Plant (ISP) Project, ensuring construction is executed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with engineering specifications and quality standards. The role coordinates closely with contractors, subcontractors, and project leadership to drive field execution.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage day-to-day construction execution for assigned scope/area(s) of the Mesabi ISP Project, ensuring work is performed safely, on schedule, and within budget.
- Coordinate and supervise contractors, subcontractors, and field personnel to ensure construction activities align with project plans and specifications.
- Monitor construction progress against the master schedule, identifying and addressing delays, resource constraints, and execution risks.
- Enforce site safety programs, ensuring full compliance with health, safety, and environmental requirements.
- Oversee quality control and quality assurance activities, ensuring construction work meets engineering specifications and applicable codes.
- Coordinate interfaces between multiple construction disciplines (civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, piping) to ensure smooth execution sequencing.
- Manage field-level change orders, RFIs, and construction issue resolution in coordination with engineering and project controls teams.
- Conduct regular site inspections, progress meetings, and contractor performance reviews.
- Support procurement and logistics coordination for construction materials and equipment at the site.
- Prepare construction progress reports, manpower forecasts, and productivity analyses for project leadership.
- Support commissioning handover activities, ensuring construction completion aligns with commissioning and start-up schedules.
- Lead, mentor, and manage construction superintendents, field engineers, and site support staff.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, or related discipline.
- 15-20 years of experience in construction management roles on large-scale industrial, mining, or steel plant projects.
- Proven experience managing multidisciplinary construction teams and subcontractors in a field execution environment.
- Strong knowledge of construction methods, safety programs, and quality assurance practices for heavy industrial facilities.
- Experience with construction scheduling, cost tracking, and change management processes.
- Excellent leadership, problem-solving, and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, greenfield project construction environment.
Working Conditions
- Based in the United States, dedicated full-time to the Mesabi ISP Project.
- Full-time, on-site presence required throughout the construction phase.
Preferred Experience
- Direct experience managing construction for a greenfield integrated steel plant or comparable heavy industrial project.
- Experience working alongside major EPC contractors and specialized subcontractors.
- Familiarity with U.S. construction regulatory and labor requirements.
