Position Summary

The Incumbent will be responsible for leading and managing all civil engineering, structural, and infrastructure activities associated with the development, construction, expansion, and modernization of DRI Plants, Integrated Steel Plants, and other heavy industrial facilities. The role oversees civil & structural engineering design reviews, quality assurance, safety compliance, project scheduling, and cost control to ensure successful project delivery.

This position serves as a key member of the project execution team and collaborates closely with engineering consultants, operations teams, regulatory agencies, and corporate stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle—from concept and detailed engineering through commissioning and handover.
Responsibility may include involvement in site development, construction execution and contractor performance.

The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership capabilities, extensive heavy industrial construction experience, and a proven track record of delivering large-scale steel, mining, and metals projects safely, on schedule, and within budget.

Job Responsibilities

Civil & Structural Engineering & Design Review
  • Review and validate civil, structural, and infrastructure engineering designs prepared by consultants and EPC contractors.
  • Ensure compliance with project specifications, industry standards, applicable codes, and client requirements.
  • Evaluate engineering drawings, calculations, technical reports, and design modifications.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary engineering interfaces between civil, mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, and process teams.
  • Support value engineering initiatives to optimize project cost, constructability, and operational efficiency.
  • Responsibilities may include involvement in site related activities like overseeing site development, civil construction activities, structural fabrication & erection.
Industrial Buildings and Plant Foundations
  • Supervise construction of industrial buildings, workshops, warehouses, administrative facilities, control rooms, substations, and process structures.
  • Ensure accuracy and quality of foundations for furnaces, reactors, conveyors, crushers, material handling systems, mills, and associated equipment.
  • Coordinate civil interfaces for process plant installations and equipment erection activities.
  • Verify structural adequacy and constructability of plant facilities in accordance with engineering requirements.
Contractor Management
  • Manage EPC contractors, subcontractors, suppliers, and construction service providers.
  • Review contractor work plans, schedules, manpower deployment, and resource allocation.
  • Conduct progress reviews and performance evaluations.
  • Resolve contractual, technical, and execution-related issues.
  • Ensure contractor compliance with project safety, quality, and environmental requirements.
Budget and Cost Control
  • Support development and management of civil construction budgets and forecasts.
  • Monitor project expenditures and identify cost-saving opportunities.
  • Review contractor invoices, change orders, variation requests, and claims.
  • Participate in cost analysis, project reporting, and financial performance reviews.
  • Assist project leadership in maintaining cost control throughout project execution.
Quality Assurance and Quality Control (QA/QC)
  • Ensure implementation of approved QA/QC procedures and inspection plans.
  • Monitor construction quality and compliance with engineering specifications.
  • Review inspection reports, material test results, and quality documentation.
  • Coordinate corrective actions for non-conformance reports (NCRs).
  • Ensure proper documentation and record retention for project quality requirements.
Safety Compliance
  • Promote a strong safety culture across all project activities.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, company safety standards, and site-specific safety programs.
  • Participate in safety audits, risk assessments, toolbox talks, and incident investigations.
  • Monitor contractor safety performance and implementation of corrective actions.
  • Support achievement of project safety objectives and zero-incident goals.
Project Scheduling and Coordination
  • Coordinate civil and structural engineering and construction activities with project planning teams.
  • Monitor project schedules and identify risks impacting project delivery.
  • Participate in look-ahead planning, progress reviews, and milestone tracking.
  • Collaborate with procurement, engineering, commissioning, and operations teams to ensure project alignment.
  • Facilitate timely resolution of schedule conflicts and resource constraints.
Regulatory Compliance
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations governing construction activities.
  • Support permitting activities and regulatory approvals.
  • Coordinate with environmental, health, and safety teams to ensure regulatory adherence.
  • Maintain awareness of evolving construction, environmental, and industrial regulations.
  • Support inspections and interactions with regulatory authorities.Stakeholder Management
Stakeholder Management
  • Serve as the primary civil engineering representative for project-related discussions.
  • Coordinate effectively with project owners, consultants, contractors, suppliers, and internal stakeholders.
  • Present project updates, technical recommendations, and risk mitigation plans.
  • Build collaborative relationships that support successful project execution.Support management reporting and executive-level project reviews.
Skills and Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s / Master’s Degree in Civil / Structural Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management or related field.
  • 10 to 15 years of progressive experience in civil engineering, construction management and project execution.
  • Strong expertise in civil / structural engineering design and construction management.
  • Experience with industrial foundations, heavy equipment support structures, and infrastructure development.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD, Civil 3D, BIM platforms, and engineering document management systems.
  • Ability to review engineering calculations, structural analyses.
  • Knowledge of industrial utilities, drainage systems, roads, and site infrastructure.
  • Demonstrated success in coordinating engineering
  • Strong analytical, strategic thinking, and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Ability to work in complex, cross-functional industrial project environments.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

Salary Range
  • $100,000 - $120,000 annually, depending on experience and qualifications.
