Laboratory Technician

Position Summary:
The Laboratory Technician position provides key physical sample analysis support for Mesabi Metallics’ Mine operations. This role helps ensure accurate process sample analysis measurements are made on concentrator and pellet plant samples in order to control each plant process to support safe, efficient daily operations.
Job Responsibilities:
• Reporting to the Laboratory Manager, the Laboratory Technician will be responsible for:
• Conduct safe physical analysis work on concentrator and pellet plant samples delivered to the laboratory using specialized iron ore concentrate, tailings, and pellet product analysis equipment installed in the plant laboratory.
• Enter lab data produced into the computerized Laboratory Information Management System ( LIMS ) provided
• Maintain organized records, files, logs, and operational documentation as needed.
• Partner closely with Lab Chemists and the Lab Manager and Plant leadership to anticipate needs, respond to changing operational priorities, and support safe, efficient day-to-day operations.
Skills and Qualifications:
• Previous experience working in an iron mining laboratory preferred. • Demonstrated interest in learning the use of new laboratory equipment required.
• Ability to follow safe use of laboratory equipment required.
• Ability to maintain accurate records and confidential information required.
• Ability to work effectively with hourly employees, supervisors, managers, vendors, and visitors across multiple operational areas.
• Familiarity with mining, processing, manufacturing, maintenance, or other industrial environments is preferred.
• Commitment to safety, teamwork, accountability, and respectful workplace practices required.
Education:
• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Associate 2 year degree in scientific disciplines preferred
• Relevant industrial operations work in iron ore mining may be considered in place of education.
Physical Requirements:
• This position requires work in an iron ore mining plant setting as well as regular field/plant walks
• Must be able to wear required PPE and work safely around heavy mobile and processing equipment
• Frequent walking, standing and climbing (stairs/ladders) required
• Must be available for shift work to cover 24 hour plant operations
Salary Range:
- $28 - $32 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications.
