Position Summary
The General Manager – Mine is responsible for the full leadership and operational execution of mining activities at Mesabi Metallics. This executive-level position oversees all aspects of mine operations, mine maintenance, and mine technical services. The General Manager will own and oversee the mine plan, from strategic life-of-mine planning to short-term scheduling and daily execution, ensuring alignment across technical and operational teams to meet safety, production, cost, and compliance goals.
Reporting to the COO, the General Manager – Mine will be responsible for the following:
- Provide overall leadership and ownership of the mine plan, including long-range, mid-range, and short-range planning
- Ensure mine design, production schedules, and operating plans are optimized for efficiency, safety, and recovery
- Collaborate closely with the Mine Technical Services team to ensure modeling, pit design, sequencing, and reconciliation support operational goals
- Strong understanding of the mineral resource and property control
- Translate life-of-mine plans into executable short-term actions through cross-functional coordination
- Oversee all day-to-day mining operations including labor management, drilling, blasting, loading, hauling, and safety
- Drive alignment between technical planning and operational execution
- Monitor and continuously improve productivity, cost efficiency, and ore quality
- Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing mine team
- Foster a culture of safety, accountability, continuous improvement, and operational discipline
- Build collaboration across departments including processing, safety, environmental, and community relations
- Promote environmental responsibility and adherence to all permits and sustainability standards
- Develop and manage operational and capital budgets related to mining operations
- Track and report on key performance indicators (KPIs), including production, cost, recovery, and safety metrics
- Identify operational risks and opportunities to improve efficiency and reduce costs
Skills and Qualifications
- 15+ years of experience working in mining operations, with at least 5 years in a leadership role
- Deep knowledge of mine planning software (Vulcan, Leapfrog, Scheduling Software, ArcGIS)
- Strong leadership, decision-making, and interpersonal skills
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering, Geology, or related engineering discipline.
- This position requires work in front of a PC, desk, and phone, video conferences and regular field work.
- Exposure to loud noise, dust, heavy machinery, and uneven terrain.
- Some lifting and strength are required.
- $155,000 - $190,000 annually, depending on experience and qualifications.

- Paid Time Off (PTO):
- 0-5 Years: 120 hours per year.
