Position Summary
Mesabi Metallics is looking for a skilled and detail-oriented Mine Surveyor with expertise in CAD and GIS software to join our team. This role will involve creating and maintaining detailed CAD drawings and GIS data related to mining projects. The ideal candidate will have experience in mining environments and be proficient in both CAD and GIS software.
Job Responsibilities
Reporting to the Manager – Mine Technical Services, the Mine Surveyor/CAD will be responsible for the following:
- Maintain the technical GIS data base and support mine operations and development work.
- Integrate GIS data with CAD designs to support planning, exploration, and operational activities.
- Conduct accurate land and mine surveys using advanced surveying equipment and techniques.
- Develop, update, and maintain CAD drawings and models of mining sites, including topographic maps, mine plans, and cross-sectional profiles.
- Collaborate with geologists, engineers, and other professionals to ensure survey data is integrated into mining plans and operations.
- Perform spatial analysis and data interpretation to support planning and operational decisions.
- Ensure compliance with all safety and regulatory requirements during surveying activities.
- Conduct regular site inspections and adjust survey data and CAD models as necessary.
- Provide technical support and advice on survey-related issues and CAD applications.
- Prepare and present survey reports, documentation, and CAD drawings for review by management and other stakeholders.
- Maintain and calibrate surveying and CAD equipment to ensure optimal performance.
Skills and Qualifications
- Proven experience with CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, Civil 3D) and GIS platforms (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS) in a mining environment.
- In-depth knowledge of mining operations, surveying techniques, and relevant regulations.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with various departments.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret and manipulate complex data.
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Surveying, Geomatics, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
Physical Requirements
- This position is a mixture of field work and office duties. Field work will be conducted daily throughout the year so exposure to the elements (rain, snow, cold, heat, etc) is to be expected. The office duties will require work in front of a laptop, desk, and phone.
