Position Summary
Mesabi Metallics is looking for Engineering Interns to assist with various pre-commissioning and construction activities at our mine site in Nashwauk, MN. As a summer intern, you will gain hands-on experience working alongside seasoned engineers in both our concentrator and pellet plant. You will have the opportunity to learn about mining processes, while contributing to the operational readiness of our plant.
Engineering Interns will be responsible for the following:
Assist in Pre-Commissioning Activities:
- Support engineers in the preparation and review of equipment, mechanical systems, and plant infrastructure in anticipation of full commissioning.
- Support the assembly, testing, and troubleshooting of newly installed equipment to ensure it meets the required operational specifications.
- Collaborate with other engineering teams to monitor and resolve technical issues during the installation and testing stages.
- Conduct site inspections and assist with ensuring that all installation work is completed safely and according to engineering standards.
- Participate in system verification and performance checks, ensuring that all equipment and systems are functional and meet design parameters.
- Provide administrative support to the project and engineering teams, including organizing documentation and preparing reports.
Skills and Qualifications
- Currently enrolled as a junior or senior in a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree program in Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, Chemical, or Mine Engineering (or a related field).
- Accumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
- Familiarity with basic engineering principles.
- Basic proficiency with engineering software is a plus.
- Safety-conscious and willingness to adhere to strict safety protocols.
- Current enrollment in a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree program in Engineering.
- This position is a mixture of field work and office duties. Field work will be conducted daily throughout the year so exposure to the elements (rain, snow, cold, heat, etc) is to be expected. The office duties will require work in front of a laptop, desk, and phone.
- $23.50 - $25.00 an hour.
